Genevieve A. Compean, LPC, is a dedicated Licensed Professional Counselor with a passion for helping individuals across Texas overcome life challenges and reach their full potential. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Pre-Counseling Psychology from Our Lady of the Lake University and a Master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance from Texas A&M University-San Antonio. Her combination of academic excellence and hands-on clinical experience allows her to offer comprehensive, client-centered care.
Genevieve is skilled in multiple therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Trauma-Informed CBT. These evidence-based techniques help her address a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship difficulties. Through CBT, she helps clients reshape negative thought patterns that influence emotions and behavior. DBT equips clients with skills to manage overwhelming emotions, improve interpersonal relationships, and tolerate distress. EFT focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in relationships, while Trauma-Informed CBT provides a structured, supportive framework for those recovering from trauma.
Genevieve also emphasizes a Relational/Cultural approach in her practice, recognizing the vital role that human connection and cultural context play in mental health. By understanding the impact of relationships, identity, and culture, she provides clients with deeper insight into their struggles. Additionally, her Person-Centered approach ensures that each client is seen as an individual with unique needs, goals, and experiences. In this approach, Genevieve offers empathy, unconditional positive regard, and a space where clients feel valued and supported. Her Reality-Based approach helps clients develop practical solutions to everyday challenges, ensuring that therapy is grounded in real-world applications.
As a proud LGBTQ+ ally, Genevieve is committed to creating an inclusive, nonjudgmental therapeutic environment where individuals of all gender identities and sexual orientations feel welcome. Her practice is a safe space for everyone, allowing clients to explore their identities and experiences openly.
Genevieve’s personal life greatly informs her therapeutic work. Married for over 16 years and the mother of two children, she understands the complexities of family life and relationships. This experience allows her to bring valuable insights into her practice, particularly when working with clients navigating family dynamics, marriage, or parenting challenges. She approaches each situation with empathy and understanding, offering both emotional support and practical guidance.
